Expanding the JH Fit Size Range

Expansion of the JH Fit Size Range to size 60
Previously available in sizes 34-51, the JH Fit jacket will now be extended to size 60. Since the introduction of sizes 50 and 51 in April 2023, feedback has been excellent, prompting us to further expand our size offering. The JH Fit Uniblock extended sizing features a narrower shoulder, slimmer sleeve, smaller armhole, and shorter length compared to our current Extended Fit jacket. Additionally, it incorporates an adjustable shoulder point-to-point measurement, ensuring a more refined fit.

How is JH Fit Uni Block different from Extended?
    1. Improved sleeve shape with the bicep reduced by 1 ¼”
    2. Shorter Body Length by ½”
    3. Reduced shoulder by ½”
    4. Shoulder slope adjustment available
    5. Shoulder Point to Point adjustment available.
    1. There will be no change for existing clients. Both Extended and Extended Plus jackets are still available, allowing Clients to continue with their confirmed fit.
    • All T.A.P.E. recommendations have been updated to incorporate the new extended JH fit size range and increased waist/hip adjustment.
    • If you would like to update your client’s fit to incorporate the new sizes and adjustments we recommend the following:
      1. Remeasure your client and update his core measurement profile.
      2. On your client’s measurement and fit page, select to Add Profile.
      3. Select your Client’s fit preferences on the Sportcoat fit quiz.
      4. Save the new updated Sportcoat profile created by T.A.P.E.

If your client is happy with his current Extended fit sportcoat we do not recommend automatically changing him to the JH Fit. If your existing client would like a trimmer fit with a smaller armhole and a shorter length, he may wish to try the  JH Fit.

    Enhanced Waist and Hip Adjustments

To provide greater versatility, we have increased the waist and hip adjustment range from ±2 to ±3. This refinement enables a superior fit for a wider range of body types, accommodating both individuals with a larger midsection and those with a tapered waist who do not require the broader shoulders of our Athletic Fit sportcoat.

How does this change affect Client’s who are happy with their fit?

There will be no change for existing clients.

  • Knit Layering Vest

    Creating Fit

    Creating fit:

    • The Knit Layering vest is designed based on our knit polo and is ordered with the Client’s  Layering Knit  Product Profile.

    • Chest, waist and hip are based on the Client’s layering knit preference.

    • The finished length for all knit layering vests is automatically set to 5″ shorter than the Client’s core measurement. This automatic setting guarantees the correct length vest for your client.

Knit layering vest can be altered in the chest and waist to reduce the size but can’t be let out.

    Styling

  • Bomber Jacket

Introducing the redesigned J.Hilburn Bomber Jacket.  The new design emphasizes a streamlined shoulder to provide your client with an improved range of motion and ease of fit. Easily place his order using his confirmed outerwear profile with no need to change the TAPE recommended sleeve outseam.

    Creating Fit

    • The Bomber jacket is associated with the outerwear jacket group 1 profile. The Fit Quiz that corresponds to the outerwear jacket profile will provide recommendations based on the intended fit of the Bomber Jacket.
    • It is important to note that due to the knit cuff feature of the bomber jacket, ½ of extra length is needed beyond the T.A.P.E. recommendation for outerwear jacket sleeve outseams.  The good news is that this extra 1/2″ is automatically added to your Client’s Bomber Jacket sleeve at the factory. Therefore it is not necessary to adjust your Client’s confirmed outerwear jacket sleeve length.

    Interior Construction

    Alterations

Due to the construction and fabric of the Bomber jacket it is not possible to alter the fit by a tailor.

Check out this article for an in-depth analysis of how one Client’s finished sportcoat profile changes based on his preference answers

    One Client: Three Preferences

When recommending a JH fit profile for your Client T.A.P.E. recommends the best pattern type for your Client.

    • Uniblock: Is our base sportcoat pattern and is recommended for most Client’s. The uniblock pattern has a 2″ taper from chest to shirtwaist. T.A.P.E. will recommend a waist/hip adjustment based on your Client’s core measurements and fit preference.
    • Athletic: The Athletic fit Jacket pattern is recommended for Client’s with a Chest to waist taper of 8″ or above. The Athletic Fit Jacket has a wider back and shoulder than the Uniblock at the same size. Athletic fit is recommended for Client’s with a larger overarm and a 8″ taper.
    • Extended: The Extended Fit pattern is recommended for Clients with a 52 or larger chest.

Remember T.A.P.E. will always recommend the correct pattern for your Client based on his core measurement and fit preference.

There are 2 shoulder slope adjustments available for the Uniblock pattern. It is not recommended to apply a shoulder slope adjustment on a first jacket unless the Client’s posture is very obvious. Or he has a history of needing the alteration.

It is also not recommended to use a Shoulder Point adjustment together with a Shoulder Slope adjustment.

    • A-Body: Used for a Client with a very sloped shoulder. Lowers the angle of the shoulder seam and lowers the armscye.
    • T-Body:

Most Common Questions to Fit Advice

T.A.P.E. recommends for a Client to go down in the chest size if he has a 6″-7″  taper between his chest and shirtwaist. Clients in this category often do not have a large enough overarm and upper back area to fit into an Athletic fit jacket.

The Shoulder Point to Point alteration is available for Uniblock pattern jackets. This measurement is taken across the shoulders and differs from the Client’s core shoulder measurement. As the core measurement  encompasses three points, it tends to be larger than the jacket’s shoulder point to point measurement. We suggest adding  the shoulder point to point adjustment only when the Client’s core measurement deviates from the Shoulder Point to Point by more than 1 inch.”

On the measurement and fit page, the Client’s preference is shown at the top of the profile.

The order details page reflects the information that is sent to the factory. Therefore the pattern name is listed not the preference. In the example below the pattern name is Uniblock. The length adjustment and extra slim sleeve reflect the slim preference.

If we refer back to the profile edit screen these same options are shown under advanced alterations.
