    Did You Know? Series Details:

    DID YOU KNOW our suiting jacket chest pieces contain real horsehair? The darker fibers seen here are horsehair blended with cotton.

    Horsehair is coarse, resilient, and resistant to creasing. It can also mold itself to any shape it is pressed against. Horsehair is ideal for tailored clothing since it helps the suit mold itself to your Clients shape. The more your Client wears his J Hilburn suits, the more personal the fit becomes! 

    Throughout history, horsehair has been used in everything from textiles, instruments for royalty, fishing nets, and ropes for laborers. It takes approximately 200 strands of horsehair to make a high-quality violin bow, and anywhere between 200-300 strands in making a chest piece.

    Please note: Horses are not harmed in the process, the best hair is from the tail, which is collected after the horse has been groomed. Now, that’s a tale worth telling!

    Did You Know…Clicking the green “info” button in TAPE Assistant allows Stylists to access helpful fit illustrations? Need a visual aid to see the difference between a Modern, Standard, or Relaxed fit? Click the green info button!

    Easy to access; In Order Entry, click on Launch TAPE Assistant, and just click the info button as the example above shows! Stay tuned, we are working on adding additional functionality here, providing more helpful info when you need it most, during order entry!

    Did You Know our dress shirt and polo collars have been improved with a lead edge bone insert?
    This thin, rigid material edge is sewn inside the collar, and prevents the collar edges from curling! The clear insert is invisible to the eye, resistant to heat and water, and keeps collars looking sharp and crisp longer!
     
    Please note: This insert is not added to our button-down collars since button-down collars need to remain flexible to button properly.

    Did You Know the interior pocket of our J.Hilburn standard and soft construction suit jackets extend upward to fit a legal-sized envelope without folding it? Our standard and soft construction suit interior pockets are designed to keep important documents looking professional and safe. The interior pocket also includes a button closure.

    Did You Know J.Hilburn Knit Polos have self-fabric collars which prevent curling, unlike traditional polos which have ribbed collars?

    A self-fabric collar means that our collars are cut from the same fabric content and weave as the rest of the Polo Knit, preventing the collar from curling.

    A ribbed collar curls because the Lycra content (Stretched Fibers) and weave is a different material than the polo body it is sewn onto!

    Did you know our swim trunks have drainage holes? Located on the rear pocket, you will find two stitched drainage holes designed to prevent water from resting inside your pocket! 

    You may see other swim trunks in the market make these with metal grommets, but not J.Hilburn. Ours are made with thread! Metal grommets can corrode due to salt water, chlorine, and sun, but thread drainage holes do not!

    Also, thread made drainage holes are softer and more comfortable to wear. Along with our mesh fabric interior brief liner which promotes better drainage and quicker drying time once you’re out of the water! 

    Did you know our swim trunk fabrics are engineered to be anti-fade resistant and quick-drying? The fabric is specially designed and tested against fading during exposure to the harsh effects of salt water, chlorine, and sunlight! In addition, the fabric properties allow for fast drying so that once you’re done swimming, you’re now ready to lounge on your favorite chair!

  • Garment Care | Custom Shirting

    Here at J.Hilburn, we want your Clients to love our garments as much as we do. Part of that love and appreciation starts with how you care for your clothing. Below are some tips that we strongly recommend following in order to increase the life span and wearability of our Custom Shirting.

    #1: WASH BEFORE WEAR

    Upon receiving his first shirting order, we recommend that your Client wash the garment prior to confirming fit and ordering more Custom Shirts. There may be some slight changes to the fit for the first 3-5 washes.

    #2: KEEP IT COOL

    Wash shirts in cold water and hang to dry, rather than taking them to the cleaners. We suggest this for all of our shirting. Since most of our shirt fabrics are 100% cotton, we allot for some shrinking that is most commonly seen in the collar and cuffs over the course of several launderings. Cleaning shirts with high heat can cause additional shrinkage and will decrease the life of the product.

    #3: HOLD THE STARCH

    Starch and the harsh chemicals used during the dry cleaning process break down fabric fibers over time. If your Client does choose to take his shirts to the dry cleaner, we suggest requesting that they be laundered in cold water (rather than hot) and hand-pressed (rather than machine-pressed). These options will help retain the fit, fabric life, and design aspects of your Client’s Custom Shirts.

    What about Non-Iron Shirts?

    We suggest following the same laundering instructions for our Non-Iron Shirting. Hang dry or tumble dry low. While low heat in the dryer is not needed to activate Non-Iron performance, the low heat can remove initial wrinkles and leave a Non-Iron Shirt looking crisp and ready to wear.

  • Garment Care | MTM Suiting

    Here at J.Hilburn, we want your Clients to love our garments as much as we do. Part of that love and appreciation starts with how you care for your clothing. Below are some tips that we strongly recommend following in order to increase the life span and wearability of our Made-to-Measure Suiting.

    #1: ROOM TO BREATHE

    Storing sportcoats and trousers correctly directly relates to how they perform. It is important to hang them with ample space between items so they can breathe, release moisture, and recover. Not wearing the same item multiple days in a row will also aid in the recovery process.

    #2: QUALITY COUNTS

    When correctly storing sportcoats and trousers, it’s important to use quality hangers such as cedar wood. These will help maintain the shape and integrity of each garment, while warding off moisture accumulation and moths. To further reduce stress on garment seams, store all sportcoats unbuttoned and trousers unzipped.

    #3: DRY CLEAN SPARINGLY

    Just as we do not suggest dry cleaning for our shirts, we do not suggest it more than once a year for our jackets and only slightly more frequently for trousers,  as they can show wear more readily. If your Client feels a dry cleaner is necessary, be sure to do your research and find a reputable one. We recommend that you wash cotton trousers in cold water and hang to dry. For wrinkled garments, we suggest having them pressed rather than dry cleaned. Maintain cleanliness by routinely cleaning trousers with a clothing brush to remove dust and debris.

    J.Hilburn has access to the finest mills in the world. Our fabrics are very special and therefore deserve special care. By following the tips listed above, Clients will be happier with their products and increase their life span.
