How does the Referral Program work with Gift Card purchases?
Gift Card purchases do not count towards a Referral Credit as a New Client’s First Purchase.
To receive a Referral Credit, Gift Cards should be purchased under the Existing Client’s Profile (the Sender), and then the Sender will then give the Gift Card to the New Client (the Recipient) to use towards their first purchase which acts as a form of tender. Remember to input the New Client as a Referral under the existing Client’s Profile prior to the New Client’s first purchase. This is the only way the Existing Client (the Sender) and the New Client (the Recipient) will receive Referral Credits. What is the Referral Program?
For quick overview about scenarios like this, view this 3-minute video.
Or read below for more details.
-Scenario 1-
Your friend Suzie decides she wants her husband Tom to be your New Client and wants to purchase a Gift Card valuing $500 for him for Christmas. You set Suzie up as a New Client Profile so she can purchase the Gift Card for her husband Tom. You set up an appointment with Tom after Christmas.
At the appointment, you go to Suzie’s profile and input Tom as a Referral. And then you set Tom up as a New Client Profile. He buys a shirt and sportcoat valuing $500 using the $500 Gift Card the wife Suzie gifted him because it is a form of tender.
Tom will get the $50 discount off his first purchase because he spent $500 per the Refer a Friend terms and conditions. After 30 days, Suzie will receive $50 in her Profile as an account credit she can use for Tom or something for herself.
This would be the same scenario if the husband was an Existing Client.
-Scenario 2-
Client Ralph wants to buy his 2 employees (Steve and David) Gift Cards as an End of Year “thank you” for their hard work. He’s also hoping to get a Referral Credit since these will be New Clients for you. You enter each employee as a Referral under Client Ralph.
You want to go ahead and capture these employees’ information up front so you input them each as 2 New Client Profiles; one for Steve and one for David. Then, Client Ralph purchases a separate Gift Card worth $100 underneath each of these New Client Profiles for their End of Year “thank you.”
New Client Steve schedules an appointment with you. At the appointment, you pull up Steve’s New Client Profile, and he buys a shirt valuing $125 and uses the $100 Gift Card to help pay for it.
In this scenario, Client Ralph WILL NOT get a $20 referral credit and New Client Steve will not get $20 off his first purchase. Why? Because the shirt purchased under Steve’s Client Profile is technically his “second” purchase; since Client Ralph purchased the Gift Card under Steve’s Profile resulting in Steve’s technical “first” purchase. Gift Card purchases do not count towards a Referral Program qualifying first purchase.
To ensure Client Ralph and his employees get Referral Credits, make sure you are purchasing the Gift Cards under Client Ralph’s Profile. You can still create the New Profiles for Steve and David – but you should not input an order in for either gentleman until they have their appointment and redeem their Gift Card with you in person.
How does the Board Program work with Gift Card purchase?
Gift Card purchases do not count towards qualifying spend of the Board Program because it is not merchandise.
However, when the Recipient of the Gift Card redeems and is part of the Board Program, this will go towards the Recipient’s Board Program qualifying spend because it’s a form of tender for a merchandise purchase.
